Blog 27: Senior Project Reflection

1. Positive Statement: I am most proud of my activities, I felt that the class really enjoyed the activities and they got to use what I had taught them.
2. Questions to Consider:
a. 2-hour: P, because I felt that I followed the contract and that I went above and beyond in every different part of the presentation requirements.
b. Senior Project:  P, I turned everything on time, and I would put forth my best effort in all of the project component.
3. What worked for you in your senior project? I feel that my service learning really did help me in my senior project, as that is where I got a majority of the answers for my essential question.
4. What didn't work for you in your senior project? The part that didnt work for me in my senior project is that I wish I joined service learning earlier so that I could of gotten more out of my time at CAP.
5. Finding Value: Well with my product of seeing the value of an essential question, I really feel that it can help me throughout life. From now on, in anything that I do, I will set a goal to help me stay focused and motivated. I'm also more competitive from participating in science fair, and I see how competition is everywhere from college admissions to job applications.

Blog 25: Service Learning

    Literal
·       The link to my log of hours is on the left tab
·     Sent contact information in email
    Interpretive
I have gained a lot from my service learning at the CAP (Civil Air Patrol) cadet program. All of my answers came from my service learning and materials(Learn to Lead book) that I have received from the CAP cadet program.
   Applied
My service learning at CAP has been a great help to my essental question, because it was how a CAP cadet can be successful. Being that my essential question is directly related to my service learning, it was evident that my service learning was one of my most important source in finding my answers.

Blog 24: Independent Component 2

Literal
(a) Statement saying: “I, Melissa Araiza, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”
(b) In this independent component I worked on Civil Air Patrol Test that I receive a certificate of competition. It varied from Civil Air Patrol Safety Education, to Civil Air Patrol Aeronautical Education, and Operational Resource Management System.
Interpretive
This shows thirty hours of work because I would have to study the given material so that I can take the given test. I have been able to complete all of the given safety education test. Also I have complete the first Aeronautical Education Test to complete the Gen J F Curry Achievement/Award one of the many on the way to promotion. Below is the calendar of which I took the test and some of the certificate of competition that I have earned, I also included all of the Safety Education course that I have passed.
Jan-Apr which shows 31 hrs

Applied
This has helped me with my essential question, "What is most essential in being successful in the cadet program at Civil Air Patrol?" because its needed for a cadet to part take in. In the cadet program in order to move up to the first promotion you need to pass the first Aeronautical Education Test. Also in CAP you need to have knowledge of what to do in emergency situations, that is why it is important to take the Safety Education tests.

Blog 23: Helping 2013

Interviewee: Oliva Pinedo
Day and time of interview: Friday 4/20/2012 at 1 p.m.

(1) What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
  • their answer: "I was planning on doing it on physical therapy since I volunteer at a physical therapy place."
  • What feedback did you offer when you heard the topic ideas? "I would recommend that you also have a backup plan just in case you loose interest in physical therapy or something goes wrong with your service learning."
(2) What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning (working with an expert) which is due prior to senior year starting?  Note: They also have to complete the 50 hours during the school year.
  • their answer: "Since I'am volunteering already at a physical therapy place, I am trying to get into a volunteer program at Casa Colina at the rehabilitation center. So what I need to do is get three recommendations letters that I already have asked for, one from a physical therapist who has their P.H.D and from two teachers at iPoly and that will help me get into the program. I would be volunteering for the rest of the summer and for that program we have to be committed to six-months and work for at least one-hundred hours."
  • What feedback did you offer them in response? "Just remember that the hours that you earn in the summer do not count towards the fifty hours you need durning the school year."
(3) What do you hope to see or expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?
  • their answer: "Im hoping that I can see someone who is presenting something similar to my topic so I can see what they had to do, what activities they did, how they planned everything, what they went over, how they used the information in their presentation, and just how well they put out their information."
  • What suggestions did give them regarding how they should approach watching the 2 hour presentations?  "For yours you should divide it into answers, that is what the teachers will tell you to do, so you come up with with a minimum of three answers, but you would want a lot more to show that you been working on your project all year long. Also you answers should be specific so it should be not training daily it should be training using blank methods and this long, and also when you present you should do answer then activity, answer then activity and so on.
(4) What questions do they have about senior project?  What additional recommendations would you give the 2013 student about senior project?  Be specific and note what you told them.
  • questions they had: 1. question "Will you know how much time you have while you present and is it a complete two hours of talking time?" 1. answer "No you dont have to be talking for the complete two hours, you just need at least thirty minutes of talking time and that is just content base not including the activities, foundation, sponge activity, or conclusion. Also the teacher you are presenting to will generally let you know how much time you have been presenting for. 2. question"Is it a continuous thirty minutes? 2. answer "No it can be broken up according to your answer so answer one two and three all have say 15 min talking time and the activities between them are 15 minutes each." 3. question "Do you need so many activities?" 3. answer "No you don't you can do as many as you like you could have one activity that incorporates all of your answers if you like." 4. question "What if you dont meet that thirty minutes of talking time will you know if you pass or fail?" 4. answer: "Yes, the teacher you are presenting to will let you know that you didn't meet the required time and you will have to make it up."
  • What additional recommendations did you give them? "I would recommend that you stay on top of your service learning, independent components, and research checks by keeping a calendar and a log to show as evidence that you have been working on your senior project. Also you should start collecting research now on your topic so that you can easily reach the required minimum articles at the end of senior year. Another thing is don't put off the science project, it will be better if you start durning winter break and ask questions before because it can be difficult to do after winter break. Stay on top of your blog so that it is constantly organized and everything is easy to find."

Blog 22: Answer #3

Essential question: Whatis most essential In being successful in the Cadet program at Civil Air Patrol?
Answer 3: The Cadet Oath is a cadet's commitment to the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and if followed can determine a cadet's success.
Evidence: 1. My learn to lead book refers to the CAP Cadet Oath as a promise that puts your personal honor and reputation on the line.
2. The Cadet Oath refers to very important parts of being a CAP cadet such as attending the weekly meetings, obeying the officers, and wearing the uniform properly. This is what is looked at as a cadet wants to promote.
3. In Service learning we recite the cadet oath to the officers to show them a cadet is committed to CAP.
Sources: 1. My learn to lead book states the cadet oath and defined it.
2. My service learning is the Cadet Oath at work, since all main points of the Cadet Oath being done weekly.
3.Interview with Lt. Col. Hartwell, he explained how one factor of the Cadet Oath is especially important to them is areospace education.
