Blog 16: Independent Component 2 Aproval

1. Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.
For my independent component I plan on working on my online Civil Air Patrol connect account. It takes about an hour to 30 min to complete one test and I get certificate of completion.
2. Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.
Well it takes about an hour to thirty min. to complete one test. So it should be not too hard to get the required thirty hours.
3. How does your independent study component relate to your EQ?
This relates to my independent component because in order to promote you need to complete the test and receive a grade above 80%.

Blog 15: Independent Component 1

Evidence:

Link to my calendar: Oct-Jan
Literal:
a)    I, Melissa Araiza, affirm that I completed my independent component, which represents 30 hours of work.
b)   In the past couple of months I have been working on my independent component, which is keeping a log of my physical activity. I have been able to bring down my mile time to 8 minutes and have been able to do about one third more push-up than before. In attempting the sit and reach something that I was never really good at have improved tremendously. I also, have been using my work out machine to increase my strength partially in my arms and leg muscles. I plan on trying to exercise on a regular basis but probably less due to my busy schedule.

Interpretive:

My individual component will be very helpful to me in both my service learning and my own health. I will continue to stay physically active because it’s something that will be beneficial to me in years to come. I have noticed that when I go and do physical activities I feel less stressed and wanting to do it again. It demonstrates 30 hours of work because simply I had 3 months to do exercise and when its spread out over time it was easy to accomplish.

Applied:

In bring what I did in my independent component; it has helped me with my essential question, “What is most essential in being successful in the cadet program at Civil Air Patrol.” By being physically active it has helped me when we have a “PT” or physical testing night allow me to keep up with the other cadets. During these PT nights we would run the mile, do sit and reach, push-ups, curl-ups, and short distance runs. In my log of my physical fitness I would do all of these exercises so that when my next PT night approaches I will be at my best. I know that being physically active can help especially for promotion. I also see how stretching before exercising can greatly help so that I don’t strain a muscle. Lastly, I see how when we have PT nights how all the cadets will encourage one another to try their hardest, I think this means the most because it is teamwork at it’s best.
